The report evidences state wise status of prison monitoring based on the performance of certain indicators which is evaluated against the statutory mandate in that state. These indicators are, number of prisons with a Board of Visitors, non-official visitors appointed and number of meetings and visits they held. It also presents a comparative analysis of the implementation status in 2015 and 2018.

Research Report - 2019

This is a second watch report on the functioning of Board of Visitors (BOV) and Non Official Visitors (NOV) in Indian prisons as on 1 June 2018. The report has been prepared on the basis of RTI responses where information was received from 491 prisons of 29 states and union territories. It includes state wise status of prison monitoring based on – a) number of prisons with a BOV constituted, b) number of prisons with NOVs appointed, c) number of BOV meetings and d) number of visits by NOVs. The report also presents a comparative analysis of the implementation status in 2015 and 2018.
