The paper utilises case-level data from the Delhi High Court to establish how immovable property-related litigation is responsible for a major fraction of the Indian Courts’ caseload, how the condition of property records contribute to such caseload and finally, how such caseload suffers intensification due to the varied and numerous laws governing immovable property. The paper also seeks to ascertain whether the government is the primary litigant in such cases.
